Smells of Love Public Bath Base Press release This project is to think about "what the public space" is today. In the age of cyberspace and internet the idea of public space has been changed. People think that we don´t need to meet and talk physically any more in order to "be" in the public space. Does it really the case? Are we losing the public space anymore? What is the public space in art? In Czech republic the most prominent public space has been "hospoda". Everything happen in hospoda. From business and political meeting to performance. However in many parts of the world and in different period in history it is public bath. Being naked, people are able to talk everything: social goship, health of neighbors, information exchange, etc, etc, without being armed. Unfortunately this tradition is dissappearing in many places. Hence it is high time for us to get more attention to the significance of public bath, especially from artistic point of view, we should be aware of its "gesumt kunst werk" "total art ness": vizual design of the space, smells, air, and most noticeablly, sound effect. Therefore we take it as a good model for the art work, since 5 sences are for use in art. Keiko Sei
